| Five Nadadores Named To 2009 USA National Team

Five MV Nadadores have been named to the 2009 National Team. Those selected must have finished within the top six at the Olympics, Olympic Trials and U.S. Open. Relays and time trials are not included.
The Nadadores on the Team are (photo, left to right) Chad La Tourette (400 Free & 1500 Free), Chloe Sutton (800 Free & Open Water 10K), Fran Crippen (Open Water 10K), John Criste (200 Breast), and Deni Cullom (Open Water 10K).
In the Open Water 10K category of ocean swimming, qualifiers were the men’s and women’s Olympian and the top five finishers in the 2008 USA Swimming 10K Open Water Nationals.
Chad La Tourette graduated last year from Mission Viejo High where he was an Academic All American. He is attending Stanford preparing for a career in business. Chad’s training routine includes swimming four hours a day, six days per week. He is the son of Ken and Pam La Tourette and has two younger siblings, Matthew and Megan.
Chloe Sutton is 16 years-old and the youngest Nadadore on the National Team. She was a first-time Olympian this year. She is a two-time National Champion in the Open Water 10K and was the 2007 Pan American Games Open Water 10K Gold Medalist. The 9/11 terrorist attacks had a big impact on her because her father was in the Pentagon that day.
Like Chloe, Fran Crippen is a star in the gruelling event of 10K ocean swimming. He holds two National Championships and was the Gold Medalist in the Pan-Am Games of 2007. His older sister, Maddy, made an Olympic team and was his inspiration. Fran also holds two National titles in the 800m free.
John Criste, Jr. won Silver in the 200m breast stroke in the 2008 U.S. Open and won Gold at the 2007 Speedo Junior Nationals in both the 200m breast and the 100m breast stroke. His mother was a competitive swimmer and his dad competed in downhill skiing. He is attending Stanford where he is interested in cinematography. His hobbies include writing screenplays and making movies with friends.
At age 17 Deni Cullom’s highlight has been his top-five finish in the 2008 USA Swimming 10K Open Water Nationals.
National Team members are eligible for traveling costs to many events and training camps, and also qualify for other perks and opportunities.

| Orange County's New Alert System

Dear Neighbor:
I am pleased to share with you that Orange County has launched AlertOC, a mass emergency notification system. One of the distinct features of AlertOC is that a resident can register more than one contact address, allowing for notification via landline, cell phones, and email. These alerts will notify residents of emergency situations such as fires.
If you are a resident of Orange County and would like to become part of AlertOC, you can register at www.alertoc.com. This website contains full information about how to enroll and the types of messages you can expect. The system has a very large capacity and will be able to send millions of messages in short amounts of time.
Several emergency agencies have begun using these emergency alert systems and give them credit for saving lives and giving residents time to evacuate dangerous situations. I encourage you to check out www.alertoc.com and consider becoming part of AlertOC’s emergency notification system.

5-Yr-Old Snatched

This afternoon at about 3:15 pm a 5-yr-old girl was snatched by a passer-by while she was playing with her cousin. The attack happened on Via Pimiento, off Los Alisos, in the Aliso Villas condominium association. Via Pimiento is across from Oak Tree Plaza between Jeronimo and Trabuco.
The girls were playing in a fenced patio area with the gate open. A male Hispanic, in his 20’s, clean-shaven, and wearing a black shirt and pants, entered the gate and grabbed one of the girls by the arm. He dragged her about 200 feet to the patio of an empty condo.
The cousin ran to her grandmother. The grandmother, who is also the kidnapped girl’s aunt, ran down the sidewalk screaming the victim’s name. The noise caused the man to leave the girl and flee.
